The Leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has officially written to the National Labour Commission regarding the non-validation and payment of the salary of CETAG members for the month of August.

This directive was issued by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and was instructed by the Minister of Education.

In the letter addressed to the National Labour Commission, CETAG expressed their concerns about the decision made by the Hon. Minister of Education.

The letter stated that during their appearance before the Commission last Wednesday, they were asked by the Commission to provide detailed documentation indicating compliance with the Arbitral Award Orders.

And their Union also promised to consult with its structures to consider the appeal to resume work as they wait for the Commission to bring finality to bear on the matter.

However, they were surprised to see that the Hon. Minister had taken action before the Commission had made a final determination on the matter.

CETAG requested that the Commission should compel the Hon. Minister to halt his action until a final determination had been made.

The non-payment of August salaries directive has caused unrest among CETAG members, who have been on strike since August 1, 2023.

The National Labour Commission has yet to respond to CETAG’s letter. However, it is expected that they will review the matter and make a determination soon.

In the meantime, CETAG members remain on strike, awaiting a resolution to this ongoing issue.
