The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has called on authorities at the Bolgatanga Technical Institute to enforce strict discipline to safeguard the integrity of education in the institution.
According to the Minister, character formation remains central to education, and the Ministry will fully support measures that instill discipline among students.
He stressed that education must go beyond academics to mould responsible citizens who can contribute positively to society.
Hon. Iddrisu made the remarks during a visit to the school following an incident of vandalism and arson on August 14, in which three students set ablaze the school library and some classroom blocks.
The destructive act was reportedly triggered after the school’s disciplinary committee suspended five students for gross misconduct, a decision that sparked anger among some of their peers.
The incident caused significant property damage and disrupted academic activities, raising concerns about indiscipline among students in technical and vocational institutions.
In response, the Education Minister charged an eight-member committee, established by the Upper East Regional Minister, to investigate the matter and submit a report within 14 days.

He emphasised that urgent and firm disciplinary action will be taken to restore order and prevent future occurrences.
The Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to supporting school authorities in enforcing discipline, noting that indiscipline undermines academic progress and the overall development of learners.
