Distance Students of CODeL-UEW Threaten Mass Demonstration Across Study Centers

The Distance Education Students Association of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has announced its intention to stage a peaceful demonstration on February 10th, 2024, across all study centers.

The association’s leadership, in a release dated January 31st, 2024, expressed their frustration with the ongoing challenges faced by distance students.

Despite their efforts to engage with the various stakeholders, including the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, the students claim that their concerns remain unaddressed.

“We have reached out to all relevant stakeholders, including the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, but we have not received any positive feedback,” the association’s leadership stated.

Among the issues highlighted by the students are exorbitant increases in school fees, rising resit fees, the non-distribution of hard copy learning modules despite payment, unresolved In-complete (IC) issues, delays in the publication of resit and last semester results, as well as the protracted delay in the graduation of students who were due to graduate the previous year.

The decision to protest was reached during a recent National Council and Centre Presidents meeting held last Friday.

To further amplify their concerns, the association plans to submit a petition to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, which oversees tertiary education.

The peaceful demonstration will take place on February 10th, 2024, and the association is ensuring that all relevant stakeholders are informed to avoid any violation of internal or external rules and regulations.

They seek justice and fair treatment for all distance students and are making necessary preparations to ensure an orderly demonstration.

The Distance Education Students Association of UEW aims to bring attention to the challenges faced by distance students and to promote dialogue with the management of CODeL-UEW regarding these issues.
