The graduates argue that the two-week window for registration and preparation goes against fundamental educational principles.

The National Teaching Council (NTC) is facing backlash from diploma graduates over its decision to give them only two weeks to register and prepare for the NTC examinations.

The NTC’s letter to Vice Chancellors on April 16, 2024, announced that diploma candidates would be permitted to participate in the 2024 examinations.

However, graduates argue that this short notice has left them disoriented and discouraged.

“If the NTC had not earlier announced that diploma candidates would not be permitted to participate in its 2024 examinations, then diploma candidates would have been long preparing for the examinations and only waiting for the NTC to open its portal for registration,” said a spokesperson for the aggrieved graduates.

The graduates argue that the two-week window for registration and preparation goes against fundamental educational principles.

They are demanding a minimum of four weeks from the close of registration to the start of the examinations.

“We deserve and demand an immediate extension of both the registration period and the examination date scheduled for 9th to 10th May, 2024,” they said.

Additionally, the graduates expressed concern that the details of several diploma candidates are yet to be uploaded onto the NTC portal, preventing them from commencing registration.

“At the barest minimum, the examination should be shifted to June 2024,” they added.

The NTC has not yet responded to the graduates’ demands.
