Several vehicles belonging to President Akufo-Addo’s convoy were involved in a fatal accident on the Accra-Kumasi Highway on Sunday, 19th May 2024.
The incident took place along the Bunso-Akyem Asafo stretch of the highway as the convoy was returning from Kumasi after accompanying the President to various events over the weekend.
Regrettably, the accident claimed the life of one of the drivers, Mr. Kwesi Atta.

Furthermore, numerous close protection and police officers from the President’s security detail sustained injuries of varying degrees and have initially been treated at the Suhum Government Hospital.
Currently, the injured individuals are being transported to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for further treatment and observation.
Many vehicles within the convoy were also extensively damaged.

Fortunately, President Akufo-Addo himself is safe and unhurt, having traveled back to Accra via military aircraft.
