Set Free From Sin (Lesson 3)

Share:

Death gets its power to hurt from sin, and sin gets its power from the Law. 1 Corinthians 15:56 GNT

Now, sin entered our world when the law was instituted. The laws which God saw as a solution for humanity to be free from disobedience became a gateway to sin.

The law was rather empowering sin and pushing people to the arenas of sin. Simply because it had certain criteria which when you flout shows you are at fault. So Apostle Paul said,

Death gets its power to hurt from sin, and sin gets its power from the Law. 1 Corinthians 15:56.

Did you read that? It was through the law that sin entered our world and it was through Sin Death became master over humanity. So which means it all started with the law.

So now the question is, what then is the law? The law was God’s standard given to man by God to obey for man to become accepted before His sight. The laws God gave through moses was not only the ten(10) commandment( Exodus 20) as the majority think. But it also has other articles which are about 613( find in the Torah) which men need to follow before God can bless them or before they can have a right standing with God. Look at it here,

Obey all the Lord's laws and commands, so that you may live in safety in the land. Leviticus 25:18.

Did you read that? This means If a man is unable to obey, He will not find safety in the land. And this came to pass. The law which was given to man to have safety and live in peace and not in pieces became an arresting officer and an announcer of people’s sins as seen earlier.

So this means, that the law didn’t make come righteous or people accepted to God but rather made man an abomination unto God. No man can live right with it. So Apostle Paul framed it this way;

For no one is put right in God's sight by doing what the Law requires; what the Law does is to make us know that we have sinned. Romans 3: 20.

This means, that humanity doesn’t need the law but the best substitute for the constitutions. And God also saw that indeed the law cannot save man. So He had a plan. The only plan He had was to end that covenant and establish a new covenant.

For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Hebrews 8: 7-8

Did you see that? And that covenant was made through Jesus Christ. What did He do? He came and poured His blood to end the old covenant that humanity was finding difficult to obey. The laws which men find difficult to obey and live by to have a rightful standing before God. Jesus came and made it simple. Look at it here;

For Christ has brought the Law to an end, so that everyone who believes is put right with God. Romans 10:4

Did you see that? Did the Bible say He end some of the laws and left some? Let’s answer this tomorrow.
