Unemployed University and Diploma Graduate Teachers Demand Inclusion in Recruitment

It is mandatory for all GES staff coming back from Study Leave with Pay to complete the form in order to be considered for their new posting.

The Coalition of Unemployed University and Diploma Graduate Teachers has issued a strong condemnation of the current teacher recruitment exercise, accusing the Ghana Education Service and Ministry of Education of discrimination and unfair practices.

The coalition claims that the recruitment process unfairly prioritizes 2022 graduates from public Colleges of Education, completely excluding qualified university graduates and diploma holders.

In a petition addressed to President Akufo-Addo, Coalition President Felix Dagba stated that this decision violates the principles of equality and fairness enshrined in the constitution.

“As university graduates and diploma holders who have undergone rigorous academic training and successfully passed our licensure exams, we believe we are more than qualified to serve as teachers,” Dagba asserted. “The decision to exclude us is unjust and a violation of our rights as citizens.”

Dagba expressed dismay at the government’s perceived favoritism towards College of Education trainees, who receive financial support and allowances, while their university counterparts struggle financially.

“We demand immediate action to rectify this injustice and ensure that university graduates and diploma holders are given equal opportunities for employment in the public sector,” he declared.

The Coalition has threatened to organize a demonstration against the relevant agencies and to vote against the governing New Patriotic Party in the upcoming general election if their demands are not met.

“We urge the government to take swift and decisive action to address this issue and uphold the principles of equality and fairness that our constitution stands for,” Dagba concluded. “The time for action is now, and we will not rest until justice is served.”
