The National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and the College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) are set to appear in court on Thursday in a bid to resolve the ongoing industrial action by CETAG.
The NLC has filed a motion on notice seeking an interlocutory injunction to restrain CETAG from further engaging in their strike action, which began on June 14, 2024.
The NLC is also seeking an order to compel CETAG to comply with the directive issued by the NLC on June 21, 2024, to call off the strike.

The motion filed by Effiba Amihere Esq., counsel for the NLC, argues that the strike action by CETAG is having a detrimental impact on the education sector and is causing significant disruption to students and the overall education system.
The court is expected to hear the motion on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 9 o’clock in the morning.

CETAG, which represents teachers in various colleges of education across Ghana, initiated the strike to demand improved conditions of service and the implementation of the NLC Arbitral Awards by the government.
However, from June 14, 2024, to the present, their demands have not been met. Consequently, they have stated that they will not return to the classroom until their demands are met by the government.

Meanwhile, students and parents have expressed their frustration with the ongoing strike, as it has disrupted the academic calendar and affected the progress of learning.
