The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a directive to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to withhold the July 2024 salaries of all teaching staff affiliated with the Colleges of Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (CETAG).
This decision follows CETAG’s continued strike action, deemed as illegal by the Ministry of Education, which began in June 2024.
The directive, signed by Nicholas Ameyaw, Head of Institutional Planning and Development (IPPD) at GTEC, on behalf of the Director, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, instructed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to halt salary payments for all CETAG members, except for College Principals.

Furthermore, GTEC instructed the College Principals not to validate the July 2024 salaries of the teaching staff.
GTEC also emphasized the need for CETAG members to end their strike and adhere to the Ministry of Education’s call for a return to normalcy.
However, CETAG, in a press conference held earlier, revealed that their industrial action is legal and they will not call it off until their demands are fulfilled by the government.
