In a legal battle set to take place on August 6th, 2024, the National Labour Commission(NLC) and the Colleges of Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (CETAG) will face off in court over the CETAG strike that has been ongoing since June 14th.
The strike, which has caused disruptions to academic activities across all the public colleges of education sector, was initially thought to have been resolved when a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between CETAG and the government on July 26th, 2024.
However, the MoA was declared null and void after CETAG’s council meeting held on August 3rd, 2024.

In response to the continued strike action, the NLC has filed a motion seeking an interlocutory injunction to compel CETAG to comply with their directive issued on June 21st, calling off the strike.
The court was initially supposed to hear the motion on July 18th, but it was adjourned to August 6th, 2024.
The outcome of the court case will determine whether or not the NLC will be granted the injunction to halt the strike.
However, CETAG remains steadfast in their demands and has made it clear that they will not be intimidated until their concerns are addressed.
