NaCCA Orders Immediate Withdrawal of Winmat English Textbook for Basic 6

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has issued an order for the immediate withdrawal of the Winmat English Language textbook for Basic 6 from schools and the market.

The decision follows the discovery of numerous grammatical errors within the textbook, raising concerns about its suitability for learners.

In a press release issued on October 30th, 2024, NaCCA highlighted its statutory responsibility for ensuring curriculum and assessment standards at the pre-tertiary level, including the assessment and approval of teaching materials.

The Council stated that its monitoring activities revealed the Winmat textbook to be unsuitable due to the presence of grammatical errors.

This discovery has raised concerns from stakeholders, including parents and teachers, who fear the potential negative impact on the quality of education.

NaCCA emphasized its commitment to ensuring that all instructional materials provided to learners meet the highest standards, thus promoting optimal learning outcomes.

The Council has instructed Winmat Publications, the authors of the textbook, to immediately withdraw and recall all copies of the textbook from schools and the market.
