In recent weeks, there has been a surge of inquiries at our front desk regarding a rumoured increment in the National Service allowance from GH₵ 715 to GH₵ 1000.
This speculation has been trending widely, prompting us to provide clarity on the matter.
Firstly, it is important to note that there has been no official communication from the National Service Authority (NSA) confirming an increment in the allowance.
The rumour originated from a media personality who alleged that the NSA is planning to increase the allowance.
His comment came after a document surfaced online, claiming that the authority has been paying 40,000 ‘ghost names’ for the past eight years.
The NSA has since debunked these claims as false.
Despite the lack of official confirmation, the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) has been advocating for an increment in the allowance for the past year.
Their efforts reflect the growing demand for better compensation for national service personnel. And It is hoped that their request will be granted in the near future.
However, it is worth mentioning that the Mahama administration has promised to scrap the compulsory national service for teacher trainees, which could have significant implications for the future of national service in the country.
We will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates as new information becomes available.
