Reopening Date for Teacher Trainees in Levels 100, 200, and 300

Teacher trainees in Levels 100 (freshers), 200, and 300 are officially expected to report to their respective campuses for the commencement of the first semester of their 2024/2025 academic year on Monday, 27th January 2025.

The reopening date, which has been confirmed by PRINCOF, follows the suspension of a three-week-old industrial action by CETAG on 26th January 2025.

CETAG’s decision to suspend their industrial action was based on what they termed the government’s “current goodwill” in beginning the process of migrating staff in the Colleges of Education onto the University Salary Structure.

This move, CETAG stated, partially fulfills rulings by the National Labour Commission (NLC).

The association also cited the newly appointed Minister of Education’s commitment to engaging with them to resolve outstanding issues as a factor in their decision.

“We are also not happy with the adverse effects that our strike is having on the college students and the entire college community,” CETAG stated in a release, acknowledging the disruption caused by the prolonged action.

Despite calling off the strike, CETAG stressed that several key issues remain unresolved.

They have urged the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) to work together to address these outstanding matters.

In a related development, The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has also issued a communiqué expressing their heartfelt gratitude to CETAG for their dedication to the education of teacher trainees despite the challenges.

“We commend the Government and all Stakeholders for taking steps to address the concerns of CETAG which has led to the suspension of the industrial strike action. We also express our heartfelt gratitude to CETAG for their dedication to the education of Teacher Trainees despite the challenges”

TTAG therefore called on all students, from first-year to third-year, to report to their campuses promptly as academic activities are set to resume on January 27th.
