ToggleHistorical Overview of Dambai College of Education
Dambai College of Education (DACE), formerly Dambai Training College (DATCO), began as a 4-year Teacher Training College on 18th October, 1974.
Colonel E.O. Nyanteh, who was the Volta Regional Minister and later the Commissioner of Education in Colonel I.K. Acheampong’s Government (1972-1975), initiated the idea of establishing a teacher training college in the northern sector of the then-Volta Region.
His frequent visits to the Krachi District highlighted the educational disparity between the region’s northern and southern sectors.
Need for a College
Colonel Nyanteh recognized the urgent need to establish a Teacher Training College to train teachers for the Northern Sector.
In November 1973, at a Durbar of Nchumuru Chiefs at Chinderi, he announced his intention to establish such a college.
Nana Obrimpong Kanya II and Nana Kokoroko II collaborated to site the College at Dambai because of its central position in the Northern part of the Region.
Site Selection and Challenges
The selection of the site coincided with a chieftaincy dispute in Dambai. The late Nana Kokoroko II directed Opanyin Awuranyi, Nana Chikpa, and Nana Nyambre Anane to find a suitable site for the College.
Their collaborative efforts, along with support from Mr. Godfred Ayesu and others, led to the acquisition of land for the College at its current location.
Official Opening
In September 1974, Colonel Nyanteh and his entourage inspected the site. The College was officially opened on 18th October, 1974, with Mr. Narh George Bosumpra as the first Principal, assisted by Mr. E.K. Dogbey.
