The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has announced the disbursement of loans to 9,433 students across 62 public and private tertiary institutions in Ghana.

This significant move is among the first major initiatives undertaken by Dr. Saajida Shiraz, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of SLTF, since assuming her role.

“Acknowledging the delays in disbursements, I extend my heartfelt apologies to the affected students,” Dr. Shiraz stated. “Under my leadership, we are committed to ensuring timely financial support for all eligible students.”

Dr. Shiraz emphasized her dedication to President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for an improved tertiary education financing system, highlighting the ongoing efforts to implement the SLTF Plus policy.

This policy is expected to enhance financial support for students and boost the fund’s overall efficiency.

Reflecting on her early days in office, Dr. Shiraz shared, “The past week has been incredibly productive with meaningful engagements and strategic discussions. We’ve been working tirelessly to reposition the fund for greater impact.”

Dr. Shiraz engaged with student leaders at the National Education Forum on education financing, familiarized herself with the SLTF staff, and explored avenues to improve the fund’s effectiveness. She also met with the newly appointed Deputy CEO, Kojo Danquah, and visited zonal and regional offices.

Additionally, she highlighted some necessary interventions made in the public interest to ensure the fund operates in a way that best serves students.

“We’re committed to a more efficient and responsive SLTF. Students can expect improved access and service delivery in the months ahead,” Dr. Shiraz assured.
