National Service Authority Addresses Concerns Over Teacher Postings, Pledges Further Adjustments and Reforms

Share:

Following a wave of social media commentary and inquiries regarding the posting of teachers from Colleges of Education to National Service Farms, particularly in Ejura, the National Service Authority (NSA) has issued a statement addressing the concerns and outlining ongoing efforts to ensure the well-being and effective deployment of service personnel.

The statement, sighted by Coleman publications, acknowledged the “genuine” worries expressed by many, while also addressing instances of “misinformation and, in part, deliberate malice.”

The NSA emphasized its commitment to posting teachers to communities where their safety is ensured, while simultaneously ensuring that rural schools are adequately staffed and not left without educators.

Mr.  Felix Gyamfi, the acting Director-General, in the statement, said, “I remain committed to making sure that our brothers and sisters are posted into communities where they are safeguarded on their meagre allowances and also make sure that the schools in our rural communities have teachers so that these schools are not left without teachers.”

The NSA also acknowledged that balancing these two crucial objectives sometimes require several weeks of careful consideration and adjustment.

The authority reiterated the importance of National Service Teacher Trainees as the “backbone” of many rural schools, noting that their absence would gravely affect learning outcomes in these communities.

Crackdown on “Posting Contractors” and Special Postings

The statement also addressed ongoing reforms aimed at eliminating “Posting Contractors” – individuals or entities who fraudulently offer “Special Postings” or “Repostings” in exchange for payment.

This practice, according to the NSA, distorts the National Service Postings process and is considered “fraudulent, immoral, and abhorrent.”

“This is the practice I promised to clamp down on because it is fraudulent, immoral and abhorrent. I didn’t promise to stifle genuine Repostings, because having worked at National Service for over a decade, I know there is also always genuine Repostings that needs to be done on different grounds.”

The statement clarifies that while the NSA is committed to eliminating fraudulent practices, it recognizes the legitimate need for repostings in certain circumstances.

Over 3,000 Repostings Already Processed

To demonstrate its commitment to addressing genuine concerns, the NSA revealed that over 3,000 repostings have already been processed.

The NSA further assured the public that it is in constant communication with relevant parties and stakeholders to ensure that necessary repostings are completed and that all interests are safeguarded.

They expressed hope that, moving forward, concerns will be brought forward and addressed before postings are released by the agency.

Registration Period Extended

To ensure that all service personnel have the opportunity to register and begin their national service without being left behind, the NSA has announced an extension of the registration period for several weeks.

The authority urged individuals with concerns to utilize established channels to communicate them, assuring that they will be addressed.

“I assure you, I have no ill-intentions or malice towards anyone, although one might not get it right at times my intentions are honest and genuine” the statement concluded.

  1. Thanks for the extension of the registration period because it is really causing pressure in the system. But please we want to know the number of weeks it has been extended to.

    • That will be communicated at the right time. Thanks

  2. Please does it include regional verification too because there is no available slot since Wednesday and tomorrow too is the deadline

    • Let’s hope NSA works on that soon….thanks

  3. I had issues with my Ghana card and went for corrections to be made but I was assured I was going to have it within the week, with the look of that I booked an appointment for Friday but up to now I have still not received it what can I do since the card is needed during verification

    • Sorry, there’s nothing special you can do currently than working on getting your card. Just as you rightly stated, it’s the only requirement for the verification.

  4. How will we be official aware about the extension of the date?. Is it of the NSS site?

  5. What about we those that we’ve been posted to a place far from home and accommodation now is unbearable ( renting from 3000 to 5000). Are they going to do something about the allowance or still we’ll receive that 715 cedis. This is the problem we are facing now and something must be done about it.

    • Currently, the allowance remains at GHC715, which is widely acknowledged as insufficient to cover the rising cost of living, including rent.
However, there is hope on the horizon. The Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Felix Gyamfi, has assured personnel that discussions are ongoing with the government to increase the allowance to a more sustainable amount.

  6. Can an NSS personnel go for reposting when he/she has already done the regional verification as a result of acceptance with the user agency?. This might be due to a result of a particular condition he/she founds himself/herself. And can’t work with the user Agency anymore.

    • The National Service Authority (NSA) generally discourages reposting after regional verification and acceptance by the user agency.
According to the NSA, reposting is not permitted, as it is considered an essential part of fulfilling one’s responsibilities and contributing to national development.

However, in exceptional cases where a personnel cannot continue with the assigned user agency due to unforeseen circumstances, it is advisable to contact the NSS regional office or headquarters directly.

They may consider such requests on a case-by-case basis, especially if the reasons are compelling and well-documented.

Therefore, I recommend reaching out to the NSA office for guidance on the next steps.

  7. Please when will the collages that are still to receive their pin code get their pin and are they also part of the deadline provided by the NSS director?

    • Kindly take heart. The NSA will release the PIN codes to all qualified individuals and ensure they complete the necessary registration before the portal closes. Thanks

  8. When is the deadline for the extended registration
