The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of the Interior, has officially declared Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as statutory public holidays in recognition of the Easter celebrations.
These dates, Good Friday and Easter Monday, will be observed nationwide as part of Ghana’s cultural and religious traditions.
In a statement released on April 14, 2025, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak emphasized the significance of Easter within the Christian calendar, highlighting its role as a period for solemn reflection, worship, and celebration.
Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, while Easter Monday, following Easter Sunday, marks the joyous resurrection of Christ and is often associated with social and recreational gatherings.
The Ministry has urged citizens to honor these holidays respectfully and in compliance with the laws and customs of the nation.
Ghanaians are encouraged to use the time for family reunions, community activities, and religious observances, underscoring the essence of unity and faith during Easter.
Easter remains one of the most widely celebrated holidays across the Globe, attracting numerous individuals to their hometowns and fostering communal interactions.
The Ministry expressed its hope that citizens would observe the holidays responsibly and meaningfully, preserving the cultural and spiritual values that define the occasion.
