The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a statement reassuring its staff of its commitment to resolving outstanding salary-related issues and directing Regional Directors of Education to expedite the processing of promotions for lower-ranked staff.

In a letter dated April 25, 2025, and signed by Ag. Director-General Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, the GES, acknowledged the adverse effect of salary discrepancies on staff productivity and outlined measures being taken to address the situation.

The letter details ongoing efforts to resolve issues such as salary reactivation, promotions across all ranks, and upgrading in collaboration with the Public Services Commission, Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD), and relevant unions.

According to the statement, between January and March 2025, 1,579 salary reactivations were submitted to CAGD, with 1,417 already processed and 162 currently being addressed.

Regarding the 2024 promotions, the GES reported that 50,458 out of the 54,227 eligible candidates have been placed on their new ranks. Outstanding 2023 promotions are expected to be finalized by the end of May 2025.

The most significant directive in the letter instructs all Regional Directors of Education to immediately process all outstanding lower rank promotions and upgrading to the Principal level for both teaching and non-teaching staff.

The deadline for issuing promotion letters to eligible staff is set for May 2nd, 2025, with copies to be submitted to GES Headquarters in Accra.

Prof. Davis emphasized the importance of teamwork and dedication in resolving these challenges to improve staff welfare and ensure quality service delivery.

The statement also warned that non-compliance with the directive will not be tolerated.

“Management would not take it kindly with any Director who will not comply with this directive. Let us work as a team with dedication to resolve these challenges to enhance the welfare of our staff for quality Service,” the statement concluded.
