The Ministry of the Interior has announced the designation of Thursday, May 1st, 2025, as a Statutory Public Holiday in the Republic of Ghana.
This designation is in observance of May Day, also known as Workers’ Day, a globally recognised celebration of labour and the contributions of the workforce to national development.
The official declaration, communicated via a press release issued on Friday, 25th April, 2025, mandates that May 1st be observed as a public holiday throughout the country.
According to the Ministry, this will afford all citizens the opportunity to commemorate the occasion and participate in related events.
The statement, formally signed by the Honourable Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), Minister for the Interior, underscores the government’s commitment to recognizing the integral role of labour in Ghana’s socio-economic progress.
The Ministry has encouraged the general public to observe the holiday with due respect and engage in activities that acknowledge the significance of workers’ contributions to the nation’s overall prosperity.
It should be noted that the declaration is in accordance with the Public Holidays Act of Ghana and reinforces the nation’s ongoing support for the rights and well-being of its working population.
