The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced a strategic shift in its deployment approach, prioritising placements in the private sector over the public sector.

According to the authority’s leadership, this move aims to ease the financial burden on the government while enhancing employment prospects for graduates.

Speaking in an interview with Woezor TV on Monday, May 5, 2025, NSA Director-General Felix Gyamfi highlighted the necessity of the change, emphasising the growing economic opportunities in private enterprises.

“For far too long, we’ve been sending the majority of our people into the public sector,” he said. “As we speak now, in the last eight years, only 14 percent of people have been sent into the private sector. That works against what we need to do, because the economy is growing in the private sector.”

The authority plans to progressively increase the number of service personnel assigned to private institutions.

Gyamfi explained that this adjustment would help alleviate the state’s financial strain, as the government struggles to provide monthly allowances for over 20,000 personnel.

He also noted that graduates serving in private companies are more likely to secure employment within three years compared to their counterparts in public institutions.

“If we send people to the private sector, we take the burden off government,” he stated. “The very few who will be left… they will get paid quickly, and they’ll get paid more.”

This revised approach aligns with a broader national initiative to equip graduates with the skills and exposure needed to thrive in the job market.

The NSA believes the shift will not only benefit service personnel but also contribute to the overall economic development of the country.
