Brief Background

Bia Lamplighter College of Education is a co-educational college of education in Sefwi Debsio (Bia West District, Western Region, Ghana). The college is located in the Central / Western zone.

Around 2004, Augustine Tawiah, MP for Bia West Constituency established the college as a private school.

This effort has been complimented and enhanced by the government of Ghana through the absorption of the college as a public institution in 2015.

Current Programmes Courses Offered at Bia Lamplighter College of Education

Currently, It is one of 46 public colleges of education in Ghana and is affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba.

Bia College of Education has received an Institutional accreditation from Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to run the following programmes;

  • 4-year Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood programme (regular).
  • 4-year Bachelor of Education in Primary Education programme (regular).
  • 4-year Bachelor of Education in Junior High School Programme (regular), with specialism in;
    a. Social Studies and Religious and Moral Education
    b. English language and Twi

The school is aimed at becoming a world class and distinguished center of excellence for preparing world class teachers.

However, D7 is not an acceptable grade for getting admission into Bia College of Education.

Your only guarantee for admission is to PASS in your WASSCE with a good grade(A1-C6)

Admission Requirements

The general requirement for admission to the 4-Year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Programme is as follows:

WASSCE Holders:

CREDIT PASSES (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising Three (3) Core subjects, including English Language, and Core Mathematics, and Three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of

SSSCE Holders:

CREDIT PASSES (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising Three(3) Core subjects, including English Language, and Core Mathematics, and Three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of study.
