Shock and outrage have gripped the Nalerigu Senior High School and its surrounding community following the fatal shooting of two students by unidentified gunmen on the night of Saturday, July 26, 2025.

According to reports confirmed by the school’s headmaster, Mr. Mohammed Tibila, the assailants stormed the campus under the cover of darkness and opened fire on the students, killing them instantly. “Yes, the students were indeed killed here,” Mr. Tibila told 3News, visibly shaken by the incident.

The victims, identified only as Lukman and Gideon, were reportedly in their dormitory when the gunmen struck.

Their bodies have since been taken into police custody, and forensic teams are actively investigating the scene for evidence.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though some sources have suggested a possible link to the ongoing tribal conflict in Bawku, a claim yet to be verified by security officials.

The North East Regional Police Command has confirmed the incident but withheld further details, citing the sensitive nature of the investigation.

A manhunt has reportedly been launched to track down the perpetrators, while authorities work to notify the victims’ families. The attack has plunged the school into mourning and heightened anxiety among students, many of whom are now afraid to leave their dormitories.

Parents and guardians have begun arriving at the school, demanding answers and calling for immediate government action to protect their children.

Community leaders and education stakeholders have also weighed in, urging the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Police Service to deploy additional security personnel to vulnerable schools in the region.

The incident at Nalerigu SHS follows a similar tragedy at Bawku Senior High School, where a final-year student was shot dead on the same night, raising fears of a coordinated escalation of violence.
