Ministry of Health outlines interview guidelines for 2025/2026 admissions into public health training institutions

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has officially announced its approval for the commencement of nationwide interviews for qualified applicants seeking admission into Ghana’s Public Health Training Institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year.

According to the directive issued by the Ministry, the interview period will span from Monday, July 7, to Friday, August 15, 2025.

This strategic window is intended to ensure institutions thoroughly assess potential candidates while maintaining consistency and integrity in the admissions process.

As stated in the circular referenced MOHINTEIF/GG, all public institutions are expected to constitute three-member interview panels, composed as follows:

  • Chairperson: Principal or officially appointed representative of the institution
  • Member: A designated representative from health service providers such as the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Mental Health Authority (MHA), or Teaching Hospital Services (THS)
  • Member: A tutor from the respective training institution

Institutions with a high volume of applicants may operate multiple panels to meet the established schedule without compromising quality or fairness.

Interview Panel Allowances

To provide equitable remuneration for panellists, the Ministry outlined standard daily allowances:

  • GHC 350.00 for the Chairperson
  • GHC 300.00 for Service Provider Representatives
  • GHC 300.00 for Tutors
  • GHC 200.00 for each of a maximum of four (4) support staff members

In addition, institutions are required to provide refreshments for all interview panellists, support staff, and interviewees.

Interview Fees

To fund the logistics and administrative processes associated with the interviews, each applicant will be required to pay a GHC 200.00 interview fee, which must be receipted via a General Counterfoil Receipt (GCR).

Candidates applying for Post-Basic Programmes will be required to pay GHC 250.00.

The Ministry has emphasised accountability and transparency in the collection and documentation of these payments.

Academic Calendar Compliance

Beyond the interview window, the Ministry released a full academic calendar for the admission process:

The Ministry noted that it will maintain a supervisory role throughout the interview and admissions cycle.

“The Ministry of Health will coordinate the interview process nationwide, as part of its oversight responsibilities,” the statement read.

This announcement comes at a critical moment when the country seeks to scale up the quality of its health workforce and training infrastructure.

By enforcing a standardised admissions process, the Ministry aims to foster transparency, enhance the quality of candidates selected, and ensure alignment with national health priorities.

Principals and Directors of all Public Health Training Institutions have been urged to observe the stipulated guidelines strictly, especially quota allocations and calendar deadlines.
