The incident occurred at Takrowase in the Eastern Region while Evans was en route to Oda to write the exam, which was scheduled to begin just two days later.

According to eyewitness accounts, Evans was struck by a tricycle—commonly known as an Aboboyaa—being operated by a minor with no formal driving experience.

The impact caused multiple fractures and severe facial injuries. The minor fled the scene, abandoning the tricycle, which is now in the custody of the Takrowase Police Station.

Evans was initially rushed to GCD Hospital in Akwatia, where he spent six days in the emergency ward receiving treatment for injuries to his face and mouth.

He was later transferred to Oda Government Hospital, where doctors recommended surgery.

However, complications arose when wounds developed around his legs, forcing a delay in the procedure.

He has since been referred to a local specialist for further treatment before metal implants and a cast can be applied.

The timing of the accident has had serious implications for Evans’ professional future. Unable to sit for the GTLE, his teaching license remains in limbo.

In response to the incident, the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG), led by H.E. Nanija Divine, has mobilised immediate support.

A delegation visited Evans to offer moral and financial assistance, and TTAG has since launched a public appeal to raise funds for his medical treatment.

The estimated cost of surgery and rehabilitation stands at GHS 35,000. While TTAG’s swift intervention has been widely commended, questions remain about the role of other key institutions.

According to reports, there has been no official communication from the NTC regarding Evans’ missed examination or any potential remedial options.

Evans is currently serving his national service in Akim Kusi near Kade. His recovery is expected to be long and costly, and TTAG is appealing to alumni, education stakeholders, and the general public to contribute to his medical fund.
