NSA clarifies service duration for 2024/25 national service personnel

The National Service Authority (NSA) has issued an official clarification regarding the duration of the 2024/25 national service year for university graduates, following the discovery of a typographical error in the award letters issued to personnel.

According to a circular signed by the Director-General, Felix Gyamfi, the award letters mistakenly indicated that the service period would run from October 1, 2024, to October 1, 2025, with terminal leave scheduled for October 2025.

This, however, amounts to a 13-month service duration—contradicting the statutory requirement under Section 29(1) of the National Service Authority Act, Act 1119 (2024), which mandates a 12-month service period.

 Correct Service Duration

The accurate duration for the 2024/25 service year is:

  • Start Date: October 1, 2024
  • End Date: September 1, 2025

The NSA emphasized that September 2025 is designated as the leave month, and all personnel are expected to observe it accordingly.

This aligns with the Authority’s recognition of the valuable contributions made by service personnel throughout the year.

“Management wishes to use this opportunity to remind personnel that the end month, which is September, 2025 is the LEAVE month.

All personnel are advised to observe it as such as Management recognises your tremendous contributions towards national development from the outset of the service year.”

Management also used the opportunity to commend personnel for their dedication and efforts toward national development, expressing congratulations in advance as they prepare to conclude their service next month.
