2025 SHS/TVET placement to be checked using index number, DoB

Share:

Junior High School (JHS) students who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will now be required to use their Index Number and Date of Birth (DoB) to check their placement into Senior High Schools (SHS), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS), or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

A source close to the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) informed Pretertiary.com that this change replaces the previously planned method, which involved using an Index Number and a free access code sent via SMS.

“It was initially planned for students to check their placement using a free access code,” the source said, “but they will now use their Index Number and Date of Birth.”

New Interface

Under the updated system, students must enter:

  • Their 10-digit BECE Index Number
  • The last two digits of the year of examination (e.g., 100000000025 for 2025)
  • Their Date of Birth as used during BECE registration

This marks a shift from the old interface, which required:

  • The 10-digit Index Number
  • The last two digits of the exam year
  • A free access code sent via SMS

The new method aims to simplify access and reduce dependency on SMS delivery, which has previously caused delays and confusion for some candidates.

How to Check Your SHS/SHTS/TVET Placement

Students can follow these steps once the placement results are officially released:

  3. Enter your Date of Birth: Use the same date of birth submitted during BECE registration
  4. Click “Sign In”: A pop-up window will display your school placement results

GES Warns Against Fake Placement Claims

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned the public to disregard circulating claims that it has received placement results from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

A viral statement falsely claimed that out of 603,328 BECE results received, 451,797 candidates had qualified for placement.

GES has described the statement as fake and clarified that the official placement results will only be announced through verified social media accounts and platforms managed by the CSSPS Secretariat under the Ministry of Education.

The Service also acknowledged that some students made errors during the school selection process, which may affect their placement status.

However, it assured the public that the 2025 placement exercise will follow clear, fair criteria to ensure equity for all qualified candidates.
