The National Conference of the Principals of Colleges of Education-Ghana(PRINCOF) penned to the Ministry of Education on 31st October 2022 seeking approval of the Ministry for teacher trainees to start feeding themselves effective 7th November 2022.
PRINCOF ascribed that the colleges can no longer continue to feed trainees three meals per day with Six cedis Fifty pesewas( Gh¢6.50) as prices of all food items have increased.
Adding that, food suppliers have also refused to supply food items to the colleges due to the high indebtedness of the colleges to these suppliers.
This release has induced a lot of upheaval among trainees as majority are of the view such an initiative would be a huge blow to them academically and financially.
The Leadership of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana, TTAG, which is willful and ever-ready to advocate the interest of student teachers has written admonishing all trainees to exercise calm as they have taken due cognizance of the issue.
The association has assured trainees the leadership will industriously engage stakeholders on the issue for a relieving progress to prevent the snag of academic works and subsequently the academic calendar of colleges of education.
The leadership has also appealed to the Ministry of Education and GTEC to expedite steps in handling the issue and henceforward release funds for the payment of outstanding months of trainees’ allowances.
The Dzunu administration asserted It is imperative for an upward review and the consistent release of the feeding fee to the colleges of education, especially in these times of hikes in the prices of food items.
Without mincing words, The leadership stated, “the feeding of teacher trainees should continue unabated”.
