Promotion Ranks and Eligibility Criteria

The promotion exercise targets four ranks, each with specific eligibility requirements based on prior promotion history and continuous service.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • Deputy Director: Applicants must have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director I in or before the year 2020. They must also have remained continuously at post since that promotion, with the exception of periods of approved leave of absence.
  • Assistant Director I: Applicants must have attained the rank of Assistant Director II in or before 2020 and maintained continuous service at post, excluding approved leave.
  • Assistant Director II: Applicants must have been promoted to Principal Superintendent in or before 2020 and remained at post consistently.
  • Principal Superintendent: Applicants must have held the rank of Senior Superintendent I in or before 2020 and maintained continuous service. Additionally, any applicant who has obtained an approved undergraduate degree will be automatically placed on the rank of Principal Superintendent.

Consideration for Postgraduate Degree Holders

GES has clarified the conditions under which applicants may rely on postgraduate qualifications (Master’s or PhD) to be considered for promotion outside the standard timeline.

These conditions include:

  • The postgraduate programme must be part of the approved GES course of study.
  • The Master’s or PhD certificate must not have been obtained prior to the applicant’s last promotion.
  • For those seeking promotion to Assistant Director II, Assistant Director I, or Deputy Director based on postgraduate qualifications, the certificate must have been earned in or before 2022.
