The National Union of Ghana Students, NUGS has issued a statement calling on the Government and the Student Loan Trust Fund to immediately pay qualified applicants for the student loan so they to settle their school fees.
According to the statement released on Sunday, February 26, 2023, signed by the President, Dennis Appiah Larbi Ampofo and the Secretary for Press, Emmanuel Yaw Gyimah, the Union has received Several complaints nationwide about the non-payment of student loans after a long period of application, making it difficult for students to register for their courses.
It was further indicated that KNUST is about to commence their Mid Semester Examination, but most students are owing the school and would not be able to partake due to the Trust Fund’s delayed disbursement. Other Universities have also issued notice to students to ensure they pay their fees and register for their courses as the deadline is almost near.
The Union emphatically stated that the delay in releasing the fund is causing more harm to students as they are unable to register for their courses and continue with their academic activity. As it stands now, about 70,000 students have applied and awaiting their funds.
