The Ministry of Health has announced the postponement of the Centralised Nursing and Midwifery Licensing Examinations to September 4, 2025, alongside a major reform in the examination structure.

The decision follows a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions (COHHETI).
Stakeholders unanimously agreed to revert to the previous decentralised format, allowing candidates to sit for their licensing exams within their respective training institutions.
According to the Ministry, the reform aims to reduce the risks and logistical burdens associated with long-distance travel, while enhancing supervision and integrity of the examination process under the oversight of the NMC.
“It is not proper for students to travel from one region to another just to write exams,” Hon. Akandoh stated.
“This new directive is a proactive measure to safeguard the safety and well-being of our future healthcare professionals.”
The Ministry further assured that adequate logistics will be provided to ensure a smooth and effective rollout of the new examination format.
The NMC is expected to release a revised timetable and comprehensive guidelines in the coming weeks.
The Ministry expressed gratitude to all candidates, training institutions, and stakeholders for their cooperation and understanding during this transitional period.
