Ghana Education Service academic calendar for Public Basic Schools for 2023/2024, Week Endings for the Term 2 & Activities

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has revised the academic calendar for Public Basic Schools in Ghana, including Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High Schools for the 2023/2024 academic year.

This is to restore the academic calendar to how it was before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the education system.

With the revision, the 2023/2024 academic calendar has four terms instead of the three we know. The first term began on January 10, 2023, and ended on March 24, 2023.

Following a short nine-day vacation period, the Public Basic Schools are excepted to reopen on April 3, 2023, to commence academic activities for the second term.

This term will end on June 15, 2023, and will also have a short ten-day vacation period for teachers and pupils before the start of the third term.

The third term for the 2023/2024 academic year will begin on June 27, 2023, and end on September 14, 2023. This term will also be intensive, as students will have to cover a lot of academic materials within a short period.

The revised academic calendar is a significant development in the education sector, as it is expected to help improve the quality of education and enable students to catch up on lost academic time.

However, the short vacation period in between terms may have some implications on both the teachers’ and pupils’ mental and physical health and their ability to retain information as the duration is very short.
