ToggleIn an effort to curb examination malpractices, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has decided to intensify the serialization of questions in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The decision was announced by the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, in a recent TV interview.
The serialization process requires that all candidates in the same examination hall receive the same question, but with different question numbers.
This effectively means that different versions of the same examination paper are set, with the aim of making it difficult for students to cheat.
Dr Adutwum explained that the serialization process was first introduced in the 2021 BECE and has been successful in ensuring that candidates do independent work and avoid collusion.

However, this year, the serialization process will be intensified to further discourage examination malpractices.
He advised candidates to study hard in order to be able to answer questions independently in the examination hall.
The minister also emphasized the importance of integrity in the education system and urged all stakeholders to play their part in ensuring that the BECE is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
