The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch (EduWatch), Mr. Kofi Asare, has called on parents to show compassion and encouragement to their children following the release of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.

In a widely shared social media post on Monday, August 25, Mr. Asare emphasised that education transcends academic grades, highlighting the importance of nurturing confidence and values in young learners.
“Don’t rebuke your ward for getting an aggregate 20. Education is more than BECE grades; also about nurturing confidence and values. Encourage, don’t condemn. Grades don’t define destiny!” he wrote.
His remarks come in the wake of the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) release of provisional results for the 2025 BECE for School Candidates on Saturday, August 23.
A total of 603,328 candidates—comprising 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 schools—participated in the nationwide examination.
WAEC also reported several infractions during the examination process:
- Subject results of 718 candidates and entire results of 177 candidates have been cancelled.
- Subject results of 1,240 candidates and entire results of 93 candidates were withheld pending investigations.
- Results from 119 schools were cancelled, while 87 schools remain under scrutiny.
