Frustration grows over delay in national service registration

Thousands of Ghanaian graduates are growing increasingly anxious as the 2025/2026 National Service registration process remains suspended, weeks after the National Service Authority (NSA) halted enrolment activities.

The delay has left many unable to access their PIN codes or begin the mandatory online registration, sparking widespread concern across the country.

The NSA initially opened its registration portal on June 17, 2025, releasing PIN codes for over 132,000 prospective service personnel, with a deadline set for July 1.

However, just four days later, on June 21, the NSA Board abruptly suspended the process indefinitely, citing directives from the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

The suspension was reportedly linked to concerns over system irregularities and a growing lack of public trust in the Authority’s digital infrastructure.

Since then, no official date has been announced for the reopening of the portal. The silence has triggered frustration among graduates, many of whom are eager to begin their service year and plan their next steps.

“We can’t even check our PIN codes, let alone register. The silence is worrying because national service is mandatory, and any delay affects our plans,” a concerned graduate told GBC NEWS reporters.

Social media platforms have become a hub for anxious inquiries, with graduates calling on the government and the NSA to provide clarity.

A post on the NSA’s official Facebook page acknowledged the issue, but offered no timeline for resolution. One user wrote:

“Dear National Service Authority Team, I’m writing to inquire about the status of the portal opening for the upcoming national service year. Could you kindly provide information on when the portal is expected to open and any necessary steps I need to take to prepare for registration?”

Observers warn that the prolonged delay could disrupt the entire service calendar, affecting postings, orientation schedules, and the start of the 2025/2026 service year.

The situation is placing mounting pressure on the NSA to communicate clearly and restore public confidence in its systems.

The suspension follows an emergency board meeting and a directive from Minister George Opare Addo, acting on behalf of President John Mahama, to halt operations of the Metric App and the Central System Management Portal (CSMP)—two digital platforms flagged for irregularities in recent investigations.

The NSA has since committed to cooperating with the Ghana Audit Service, Auditor-General, and National Security in a comprehensive forensic audit and biometric revalidation exercise.
