The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is expected to release the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results for all private candidates by September 6, 2025.

WAEC conducted this year’s BECE for three categories of candidates but, as of now, has released results for only one group — school candidates.

On August 23, 2025, the Council published the provisional results for school candidates under the headline, “Release of Provisional Results for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates, 2025.”

The announcement, however, made no reference to private candidates, leaving over a thousand candidates and their families in suspense.

According to official data from WAEC and the Ghana Education Service (GES), 1,661 private candidates sat for the 2025 BECE.

This group comprised 858 males and 803 females — a figure not included in the August 23 release.

A reliable source has confirmed that WAEC plans to publish the pending private candidate results on September 6, 2025.

The timing is critical as the Ministry of Education (MoE) will begin placing successful candidates into senior high schools from September 17, 2025.

The pending batch includes candidates assessed under both the new Common Core Curriculum and the outgoing old curriculum.

WAEC had earlier summoned certain private candidates to assist in ongoing mass cheating investigations, and the upcoming release will finally determine the status of their results.

“Parents, candidates, and stakeholders should check the BECE result portal once the results are live. Any results previously withheld, whether for private or school candidates, will also be updated on the same platform”

The delay has caused anxiety among many families, with some candidates experiencing difficulties accessing their school selection data on the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal.

Once the results are published, affected students will have their data captured properly for placement, just as those whose results were previously withheld but later cleared.

In a related development, WAEC has announced that 2025 marks the final year it will conduct BECE examinations under the old curriculum.

Starting 2026, all BECE candidates will be assessed exclusively under the Common Core Curriculum.

Additionally, the Council has confirmed that the 2026 BECE will be the last time the English Literature text Cockcrow will be used for assessment.
