The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has summoned a group of candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both School and Private Candidates, following allegations of mass collusion and other examination irregularities.

In a statement shared on their official website on August 8, 2025, WAEC confirmed that the results of the affected candidates have been withheld pending investigations.

The Council has identified specific individuals believed to have been involved in coordinated malpractice during the examination period and is inviting them to report at designated locations on assigned dates to assist with the inquiry.

WAEC clarified that the invitation is part of its standard procedure for resolving suspected cases of examination misconduct.

Candidates are expected to provide relevant information that may help the Council reach a fair and informed conclusion.

However, WAEC warned that refusal to comply with the invitation will not prevent it from making a final determination on each case.

Decisions may be taken in absentia, which could include the cancellation of results or other disciplinary actions.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the credibility of its examinations and ensuring that all candidates are assessed under fair and lawful conditions.

It urged parents, guardians, and school authorities to support the affected candidates in complying with the directives.

Candidates Required to Report for Investigations

Details of the candidates involved, along with their reporting schedules and venues, have been published on the WAEC’s official website as well.
