The Early Grade Students’ Association of Komenda College of Education has embarked on an intensive awareness campaign on the importance of Early Childhood Education throughout the Komenda township.

The association as part of their week-long celebrations, used a float to traverse the town with their message.

The members of the association went door-to-door, speaking with parents and educating them about the benefits of schooling.

They emphasized the long-term advantages of education, including improved opportunities and a brighter future for their children.

Additionally, the association distributed pencils and erasers to parents, encouraging them to give these school supplies to their children every time they go to school.

Mrs. Naa Korkor Larbi appealed to parents to prioritize their children’s early years, stressing the importance of a solid foundation for their future success.

Throughout the interactions, a significant concern raised by many parents was the absence of a preschool (nursery) within the community.

They expressed their difficulty in enrolling their children, aged one to three, in government schools due to the schools’ inability (due to their policies) to accept children within this age range.

Parents argued that children in this developmental stage already possess knowledge and should be granted access to education.

Some parents indicated that they had to resort to alternative arrangements, such as informal home-based programs or relying on the help of relatives or neighbours who were willing to provide early education.

They therefore called on the College Management to put some measures in place for their wards within the age of 1-3 years to enroll in school.

Mrs. Naa Korkor Larbi, the patroness for the Early Grade Students’ Association, shared with Coleman Publications that the awareness campaign yielded fruitful results and was warmly received by community members.

Mrs Larbi emphasized the significance of the parents openly discussing their challenges in sending their children to school with them.

Adding that, the dialogue showcases the ‘community’s’ willingness to provide education for their children.

She pledged to address the obstacles raised by parents during their discussions with the appropriate authorities to ensure that every child in the community receives an education, as it is their fundamental right.

However, Mrs. Larbi appealed to the parents to prioritize their children’s early years, stressing the importance of a solid foundation for their future success.

She asserted that neglecting to provide a proper educational foundation during these crucial years could pose difficulties for children later in life.

Mr. Prince Laryea, an educator in the Department of Education at Komenda College, also participated in the campaign.

He expressed the need for parents to actively engage with their children’s education, as children eventually become the caretakers of their parents in old age.

Therefore, Mr. Laryea urged parents to nurture their children diligently to ensure future benefits for both parties.

He further emphasized that parents should not leave their children’s education to chance but continue to monitor their progress and provide necessary guidance.

Such involvement, he claimed, facilitates the growth and development of children into responsible citizens.
