ToggleThe 2021/2022 academic year has been rough and hectic for teacher trainees across the country.
There have been a lot of prolonged industrial actions embarked on by both the teaching and non-teaching staff of the colleges of education which led to the suspension of academic activities by the various mentoring Universities.
It could be recalled the industrial action by CETAG led to the suspension of the end-of-semester examinations for both second and third-year students last year.
The Semester Examinations which were scheduled for Wednesday, 30th November 2022 to Friday,9th December 2022 were suspended until further notice by the Institute For Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development (ITECPD), Winneba.
Juxtaposing the situation and the disinclination of the government in tackling the issues at hand, ITECPD arranged and has successfully conducted their end-of-the-semester examinations for the students to complete the 2021/2022 academic year and to prevent further misshaping of the academic calendar.
End of Semester Examinations
Arrangements were made for Level 200 students to write their papers from Monday, 16th January 2023 to Friday, 20th January 2023.
They then vacated campus on Saturday, 21st January 2023, and are expected to begin their 2022/2023 academic year on 25th February 2023.
Level 300 students also began on Monday, 23rd January 2023, and completed on Friday, 27th January 2023.
The completion of the academic year was celebrated with singing and dancing by trainees in some colleges of education.
Some stated the 2021/2022 academic year has been a challenging one, stating they had fewer contact hours with their tutors due to the strike. Some also asserted it has been a prolonged year that has disrupted their plans.
Despite the drawbacks, they were thankful to God for a successful examination and year.
Commencement of Internship
Prospective level 400 Students are to begin their internship( extended teaching) on February 6th, 2023.
In a related Story, trainees in colleges of education affiliated to the University of Cape Coast, UCC are yet to write their 2021/2022 Second semester examinations.
However, they have begun their extended teaching practice(internship). They are expected to take such papers once they are done with their internship somewhere in April.
