Ghana’s teacher education landscape continues to evolve, with reforms over the past few years reshaping institutional affiliations.
As of mid-2025, all 47 public Colleges of Education have clearly defined university affiliations under the supervision of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
The most significant change came on December 22, 2023, when eight Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)-oriented colleges were officially transferred from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) under a four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
