Jasikan Buem Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Kofi Adams, has revealed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has devised a comprehensive plan to improve the living conditions of teacher trainees and working teachers in Ghana when given the mandate.

Additionally, if elected, the NDC intends to eliminate the mandatory Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination, which has been a topic of debate in recent years.

Addressing a gathering of third- and first-year students at the Jasikan College of Education on Sunday, July 30th, 2023, Hon. Kofi Adams expressed his perplexity at the current requirement for teacher trainees to write the licensure exam.

He argued that it is unfair to expect individuals who have already completed four years of rigorous education, including supported teaching in schools as part of their training, to undergo further examinations before being granted teaching licenses.

As a result, he pledged that the NDC government, if elected, would abolish the licensure examination policy.

Interestingly, this stance aligns with the views of the NDC’s flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama. Earlier this year, when questioned about the licensure examination, Mahama unequivocally stated his administration’s intention to cancel the exams.

Recognizing the importance of youth employment, Mr. Adams further declared that the NDC government would enhance existing programs and implement robust plans for the benefit of young people in Ghana.
