The National Teaching Council (NTC) has issued a directive to all accredited Teacher Education Institutions across Ghana to upload comprehensive data on their final-year students (Level 400) by Monday, August 25, 2025.

This move forms part of the government’s broader Resetting Ghana Agenda, which seeks to align teacher training with national education reforms.

In a formal communication sighted by Coleman Publications on August 18, the NTC emphasised that the data submission is a prerequisite for the reformed Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), now integrated into final-year assessments.

The directive follows recommendations from a ministerial committee established by the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, in May 2025.

The committee concluded that all graduating teacher trainees must sit for the revised licensure exam before completing their programs.

Institutions are required to upload student details via the NTC’s indexing portal at indexing.ntc.gov.g, using a standardised Excel format.

 The required data fields include:

  • Index Number
  • Surname
  • Middle Name
  • First Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Sex
  • Programme
  • Programme Qualification
  • Year of Admission
  • Email Address
  • Telephone Number

The NTC has urged institutions to ensure accuracy and completeness in their submissions to avoid delays in examination registration and certification.

The reformed GTLE is expected to assess both pedagogical knowledge and subject-specific competencies, reflecting the Council’s renewed emphasis on quality assurance in teacher preparation.

Stakeholders, including university registrars and college administrators, have been advised to treat the directive with urgency.

Failure to comply may result in affected students being excluded from the upcoming licensure examination cycle.
