Structure of The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), 2025

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has made known the structure of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) for 2025, providing clarity for aspiring teachers preparing for this assessment.

The GTLE is comprised of three distinct papers:

General Professional Knowledge

This paper will cover literacy, essential professional skills, and numeracy.

• Essential Professional Skills
• Numeracy

It is a mandatory paper that all candidates must take, regardless of their specialism.

The paper consists of 90 multiple-choice questions (90 marks) and an essay component on literacy worth 10 marks.

Related Pedagogy

Depending on your area of specialism, this paper will focus on early childhood, primary education, junior high, and senior high education.

• Early Childhood Education Pedagogy
• Primary Education Pedagogy
• Junior High & Senior High Education Pedagogy

it is made up of 100 multiple-choice questions.

Subject of Specialisation

This paper is based on your area of specialism, and you will select it during your registration process (For JHS/SHS)

It focuses on the specific subject area a candidate will teach and consists of 100 multiple-choice questions.  

However, those with a Mathematics major will have 60 multiple-choice questions in this paper.

Early Grade/Primary Education Candidates

The “Multiple Subject Content” paper (100 multiple-choice questions) replaces the Subject of Specialisation for Early Childhood and Primary Education students.

This multiple-choice paper covers all the subjects taught at the basic level.

• English Language (Literacy)
• Science
• Social Studies
• Education
• ICT
• Creative Arts

 Number Of Questions For Each Subject:

• Mathematics – 20
• English – 20
• Science – 20
• Social Studies – 15
• Education – 15
• ICT – 5
• Creative Arts – 5
