The 75th-Anniversary Celebration of Komenda College of Education launched

Komenda College of Education was established in 1948 on a site that had been used by the British Navy during World War II. The college has officially launched its 75th Anniversary Celebration at the GNAT Hall in Accra.

The celebration, which is on the theme: “ Promoting sustainable National Development: The contribution of Komenda College of Education in 75 years and beyond” launched on Thursday, 29th September 2022, Is anticipated to commence on 8th -12th March this year.

However, several activities have been launched by the planning committee ahead of the grand celebration on the aforementioned dates.

Some of these activities for the celebration include; inter-hall debate, Komenda-wiawso Educational Conference, Komenco-Fosco Games, Outreach and sensitization programs, inter-hall choral competition, Departmental Exhibitions, and Drama Series All these events are taking place from September through to February 2023

KOSA Homecoming, Grand Durbar, Dinner Night, and the thanksgiving services will commence from 8th to 12th March 2023.

Welcome Address

In his address, the Principal for Komenda College of Education, Very Reverend Dr. Kwesi Nkum Wilson touched on how the college started and how far the Lord has been gracious to the college over the years.

Dr. Kwesi Nkum Wilson highlighted some major accomplishments the college has chopped over the years and in his tuner of office.

Komeda college of education has boosted its farming activities and the agricultural sector of the college by acquiring a multi-purpose tractor from the ministry of agriculture.

Again, Sign Language is now mandatory content for studying for all the first and second-year students in the college. Making the college a fully inclusive school.

The fight over tables and chairs for lectures by students is now a thing of the past, as the college has now procured enough tables and chairs to boost teaching and learning in the classroom.

The Principal augmented that, Management is committed to commissioning the state-of-the-art administration block as soon as possible. He, therefore, urged all benevolent individuals to come to their aid in making this completion of the administration block a reality before the 75th-anniversary celebrations.

Very Reverend Dr. Kwesi Nkum Wilson made it known that the college will be having its International Education Conference from 26th to 28th October 2022. He explained that this is part of the plans for the college to run post-graduate programs within the next 10 years ahead. According to him, the college would continue to expand its programmes to meet the needs and aspirations of modern industry and community.

He concluded by thanking the ministry of agriculture for the delivery of the tractor to the college and also expressed his gratitude to each individual who is aiding the college through any means.

Chairman’s Remarks

The Chairman, Rt. Rev. Richardson Aboagye Andam, The Bishop of the Cape Coast Diocese was grateful and saw the opportunity as an honor to chair an event of such caliber.

“Celebrations are very important as it helps us remember our humble beginnings and where we are getting to, especially celebrations like this. I am honored to chair this program and I must say, Komenda college of education has progressed under this current leadership”, Rt. Rev. Aboagye Andam expressed.

He added that the college is undoubtedly performing incredibly well in all spheres.

Remarks by KOSA President

The KOSA National President, Mr. David Ansah asserted the launch is a call up for all the old students far and near to come together and join hands to propel the college forward.

“The growth, development, and survival of any developmental journey is tough, but I am a proud President to say, the old association is laying the necessary structures to enable us to continue to offer our unflinching support to our alma mater” Mr. David Ansah declared.

“The celebration is an opportunity to look back and reflect on all the things we did together at the Assai Land. It’s a moment to improve Assai Hill. I, therefore, call on all to come and make this celebration a memorable one” Mr. Ansah Concluded.

Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana

In his presentation, The Presiding Bishop of the Church, Ghana, The Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo noted that the entire Methodist Church and Council were proud when they heard the college was about to launch its 75th anniversary.

“We are so proud of the college, for 75years of academic excellence, service to God, and Service to mankind. Without a doubt, the college has fed every sector in this country with its products, the church is not left out”, Dr. Paul Boafo stated

The Presiding Bishop also called on all stakeholders; from the government through to students and parents alike to join hands in the celebrations.

Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo promised the Methodist Church would support the college in the anniversary celebrations. He added that, as part of their 75th-anniversary present, the Methodist Church of Ghana is building the L.A Creedy temple for the school.

Honorable Ntim Fordjour’s Remarks

Reverend John Ntim Fordjour is a Ghanaian politician and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Assin South Constituency in the Central Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. He is currently serving as the Deputy Minister of Education following his appointment by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and receiving Parliamentary approval.

Speaking at the event, the Honorable Minister was glad for being honored as a KOSA

“I’m most honored to be confirmed upon this great honor. I always say that I wasn’t smart enough to be a KOSA, but the Grace of God abounds so now I have this honor. KOSA!!!” Reverend Ntim opined.

Representing the Minister of Education, Hon. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, acknowledged that for the past 74 years Komenda College of Education has become home to training some of the best teachers the country has had and some of the best professionals in the education fraternity who continue to hold high the flag of this country and who continue to make very strong contributions to the shores of this country.

“I have not seen any institution that has raised more greatness than KOMENCO has done. And this goes beyond the education sphere” The Deputy Education Minister added.

He also commends the Methodist Church for being the pillar and partner to the ministry of education and the government in ensuring that the country has a transformed education system.

“We are much aware of the great transformation taking place at the college under the current leadership. The many brilliant initiatives that we hear from the Principal and the reality of it when we follow up. It is a plus to the college and the government is very proud” Reverend Ntim conveyed

He, however, stated that upon all the achievements of the college, their best days are not behind them but ahead of them. Urging that, the college should keep it up.

Launching of the 75th anniversary

The Minister, Honorable John Ntim Fordjour, The Presiding Bishop, The Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, and the Principal of the College, Very Reverend Dr. Kwesi Nkum Wilson Duly Launched the Anniversary Celebration activities.

The logo challenge for the 75th-anniversary celebration was won by the SRC Financial Secretary, Thomas Tormenyi.

Closing Remarks

The chairman was grateful to all the participants for gracing the occasion and making it extraordinary.
