Here is the latest update on the Colleges Of Education Teachers Association Of Ghana’s annual leave.
- The meeting held between the National Leadership of CETAG on one part and PRINCOF as well as a representative from FWSC on the other part, ended inconclusively on Tuesday, 13th September 2022 at Princof House, East Legon, Accra.
- PRINCOF agreed in principle at the meeting that tutors deserve to be compensated for the all-year-round work but they needed some time to negotiate with CETAG the rate to be paid.
- Princof was unable to table any figure on the table despite the persistent demand from the CETAG side for the reason that they were pleading with CETAG to allow them some time to consult further with GTEC so that when the parties meet again they can come clear.
- Based on that CETAG asked for two days, thus, 14th &15th September 2022 to take a decision on the issues discussed and communicate in writing to PRINCOF by the close of Thursday, 15th September 2022.
- Leadership shall give a detailed report on the meeting (on their official letterhead) detailing all that transpired at NEC, COUNCIL, and all members tomorrow, 14th September 2022 before 11 a.m.
- Meanwhile, leadership will go into a consultation with their legal counsels tomorrow to inform the decision they shall arrive at before communicating in writing to PRINCOF by the close of Thursday, 15th 2022.
- This means that members will have to hold on to their inter-semester break (annual leave) until Thursday’s decision which will be based on counsels’ advice and that of leadership has been communicated to them.
However, The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Education Committee, Peter Noritsu Kotoe, has urged all Tutors in the 46 Public Colleges of Education across the country to withdraw their decision on the annual leave.
Speaking to Citi News, the Akatsi North legislator noted that members of CETAG must abolish their decision as they negotiate with the government.
“Since the change in the academic calendar, they have been at work for the whole year and must be rewarded. I agree perfectly with their demands. My challenge is that it is the employer that grants leave, so I will appeal to them to rethink their position and continue negotiating with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and other agencies such as the Ministry of Education”.Peter Noritsu Kotoe further stated.
