Final year students of the Wiawso College of Education (WATICO) have staged a demonstration demanding the immediate resolution of ongoing issues with their examination results

The Final year students of Wiawso College of Education (WATICO) have taken to the streets in a demonstration to express their dissatisfaction with the handling of their results by their college management and the affiliated University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

The students allege that their concerns over the past years regarding their examination results have been overlooked and remain unresolved.

Numerous anomalies have been reported by the aggrieved students, including;

  • Missing and pending results over the years
  • Absence of Supported Teaching in School (STS) results for two academic years
  • Score miscalculations (CA and Exams score do not tally)
  • Incorrect index numbers that do not match the college’s list
  • Use of reference numbers instead of index numbers during exams

According to the students, these irregularities have caused confusion and frustration among their batch.

“The lack of clear and accurate results has caused immense stress and anxiety for us,” said one student representative.

Another pressing issue highlighted by the demonstrators is the failure of the college to issue student identification cards to some final year students.

This lack of identification, according to the students, has resulted in difficulties in obtaining scholarships and other assistance from benevolents to aid their education.

“This has prevented some of these students from obtaining scholarships and has created potential difficulties for verifying students during job applications (after college), while others also feel disconnected from the college community,” they noted.

The protesting students called on their college to promptly address these grievances.

They demanded that all students without identification cards should be promptly provided to facilitate their further studies and acknowledgement as legitimate students of the college.

Additionally, they urged the college to issue index numbers to students who are still utilizing reference numbers during exams to ensure the accuracy of their results in their final semester.

The level 400 students firmly believe that if these issues remain unresolved, it will significantly impact their National Service, Ghana Teacher Licensure Exams (GTLE), and future graduation.

“The entire level 400 students would like to plead and channel our grievances to the affiliated University, University of Education, Winneba through the management to release all pending results.  We also plead that management expedite all processes to resolve all anomalies in the examination results which we have been battling for a longer period to be released as soon as possible.”
