Matriculation Ceremony By Komenda College of Education

Komenda College of Education held its 16th Matriculation Ceremony on Thursday, 23rd February 2023 to formally usher fresh men and women into the various Bachelor of Education programmes offered by the College.

The programme held at the college complex hall had in attendance a lot of dignitaries including the Principal of the College, Very Reverend Kwesi Nkum Wilson(PhD), Vice Principal, Mr Theophilus Kweku Bassaw, the Acting Secretary for the college, Ms Constance Afriyie, the Chaplain, Reverend Wilson Kortey Kotei, Deans, Heads of Departments, Hall Staff, Lecturers, SRC Executives, Teaching and Non-teaching.

Brief Exaltation

Speaking on the theme “You are the Light of the World”, Reverend Wilson Kortey Kotei admonished the matriculants to live by the purpose and ultimate reason for enrolling in the college.

Adding that, they are to live in conformity to the rules and regulations governing the new environment they have found themselves in as people of the light.

“You are here to represent yourself, family, and the generations yet unborn, hence, live uprightly to avoid disgracing an entire race”, he expressed.

Reverend Wilson also urged the Matriculants to protect the image of the college wherever they find themselves, as genuine ambassadors of the college do.

“wherever you find yourself after this ceremony, you must be a true ambassador of the college. You must shine bright at every corner you would be. That is our mark and you must demonstrate it as well, and never forget to live a life worthy of emulation as a student of this great institution”, he added.

He concluded by encouraging the matriculants to keep their heads up despite the challenges they would encounter as they embark on the four-year journey.  He added that, though the journey would not be easy, he can assure them that the God that began with them would surely see them through.

 Principal’s Address

In his address, the Principal, Very Reverend Kwesi Nkum Wilson (PhD) made it Known that to the matriculants the ceremony is expected to confirm their acceptance as teacher trainees of the College and assure Management that, they will adhere to rules and regulations guiding their stay in the college.

Adding that Komenda College of Education does not only train teachers in academics but also in character, discipline and hard work, as have been the college’s core values: Academic excellence, service to God and Service to Mankind.

Dr Kwesi Nkum Wilson further admonished the matriculants to network with their colleagues and tutors for a peaceful co-existence on the assail hill. Adding that, they should ask questions and get rid of any misconceptions they might be having.

“Allow yourselves to be nurtured and grow in all fascist of life. Network and ask questions for clarification. And always ensure to participate in all college activities.” He stated.

Very Reverend Kwesi Nkum Wilson (PhD) in turn empowered the lecturers to sanction any student that will miss lectures without any tangible reason.

“Do not hesitate to sanction any student that will miss classes without any tangible reason. The college has set a standard in teacher education and we entreat them to comply to continue lifting the flag high” he emphazied.  

 “No Student can run away from assessment in the College. Work tirelessly to achieve your goals and remember, you have everything at your disposal for your stay”

Statistics of First Year Students For the 2022/2023 Academic Year

Very Reverend Kwesi Nkum Wilson (PhD) classified the 2022/2023 admissions as one of the most stressful, difficult and challenging since he came into office. Elucidating out of the 2,500 first-choice qualified applicants, he was directed by the government to admit only 295 applicants.

Adding that the quota given was small per the number of applicants, and out of the number given, they issued admissions notices to 315 applicants who accepted the offer and paid their admission fees upfront making it difficult to return some.

Hence, he accepted the additional 10 applicants and is ready to face any actions that come with it.

He concluded by making it known the total student population of the college now stands at 1831 with 45% being females and the remaining males.

Conclusion

The ceremony ended with excitement as matriculants expressed their joy for the opportunity to be part of the College Community. Some who spoke with Coleman Publications promised to be loyal to the college by conforming to all statues, rules and regulations as far it concern them.
