The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for the 2025/2026 school year, outlining key dates for Basic Schools across the country—including Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools.
The calendar provides a comprehensive roadmap to guide teachers, learners, and stakeholders through the upcoming academic cycle.
Academic Term Dates
First Term (15 Weeks)
- Reopening: Tuesday, 2nd September 2025
- Mid-Term Break: Thursday, 31st October to Sunday, 3rd November 2025
- Closing Date: Thursday, 18th December 2025
- Vacation: Friday, 19th December 2025 to Tuesday, 7th January 2026
Second Term (12 Weeks)
- Reopening: Wednesday, 8th January 2026
- Mid-Term Break: (Dates to be announced closer to term)
- Closing Date: Wednesday, 1st April 2026
- Vacation: Thursday, 2nd April to Monday, 20th April 2026
Third Term (13 Weeks)
- Reopening: Tuesday, 21st April 2026
- Closing Date: Thursday, 23rd July 2026
- Vacation Begins: Friday, 24th July 2026
BECE Schedule
GES has also confirmed that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be held from Monday, 4th May to Sunday, 11th May 2026.
The examination window falls within the second term and schools are expected to adjust lesson plans to ensure effective preparation.
Operational Directives
GES has advised all Basic School Heads to fully observe public holidays as part of the academic year.
According to the calendar, each term will include a two-day mid-term break, giving both learners and facilitators time to recharge.
These breaks are deemed essential for improving well-being and enhancing teaching efficiency across schools.
School management teams, teachers, parents, and guardians are urged to familiarise themselves with the calendar and plan proactively to ensure a smooth and productive academic year.
GES also emphasised that any future amendments to the calendar will be communicated in advance through official channels.
