The Ministry of Education has issued a strong warning to all teaching and non-teaching staff as the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) officially begins today, August 5.
In a statement signed by Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak (MP), the Ministry made it clear that anyone found aiding or abetting examination malpractice will face swift disciplinary action, including dismissal and possible imprisonment.
“The integrity of our examinations is non-negotiable,” Dr. Apaak declared. “Schools are places of learning, not breeding grounds for dishonesty. Anyone who compromises the credibility of WASSCE will be dealt with severely.”
In the statement, he noted that the Ministry is working in tight coordination with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), and national security agencies to uphold examination standards.
Additionally, surveillance and monitoring across schools have been intensified.
“You have been employed to nurture, guide, and support students in their academic journey, not to compromise their future,” Dr. Apaak emphasised.
Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, also weighed in, calling for moral leadership and accountability across all examination centres:
“There must be zero tolerance for exam malpractice across the country. The young ones must grow in integrity, and let no one of them be associated with exam malpractice,” he said.
All staff—invigilators, supervisors, and school authorities—have been urged to report any suspicious conduct.
The Ministry stressed that safeguarding the fairness and credibility of the exam process is a shared national duty.
“We will not shield anyone who engages in irregularities,” the statement read. “The consequences of misconduct will be swift, public, and unforgiving.”
To candidates across the country, the Ministry offered words of encouragement:
“Remain focused and confident. You have what it takes to succeed with integrity. Write with pride, knowing your best effort is enough.”
