GES releases third term academic calendar for 2024/2025

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for the third term of the 2024/2025 academic year, providing essential guidance for school heads, teachers, parents, and students as they prepare for the final term.

The third term is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, marking the return of pupils and staff to schools nationwide for the concluding academic phase.

Duration of the Term

The term will span a total of 12 weeks, during which students will engage in academic activities, school projects, and preparations for end-of-year assessments.

The GES has confirmed that there will be no mid-term break during this term.

End of Term and Vacation Period

The third term is set to conclude on Thursday, July 24, 2025, when schools will officially close for the end-of-year vacation.

The vacation period will last for 32 days, from July 24 to September 7, 2025, allowing students and teachers well-deserved time to rest before the new academic year begins.

Public Holidays During the Term

Schools will observe the following national holidays during the third term:

  • May Day – Thursday, May 1, 2025
  • African Union Day – Sunday, May 25, 2025
  • Eid-ul-Adha – Saturday, June 7, 2025 (tentative, subject to moon sighting)

Reopening for the 2025/2026 Academic Year

Schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 8, 2025, marking the beginning of the first term of the 2025/2026 academic year.

This structured calendar aims to provide clarity for students, parents, teachers, and school administrators as they prepare for the final term of the academic year.

The Ghana Education Service has also advised educational stakeholders to make the necessary arrangements to ensure a smooth final phase of the 2024/2025 academic year.
