New Format:

Under the revised framework, candidates will now undertake the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), which integrates both theoretical and practical components.

The reform aims to ensure that newly trained teachers demonstrate not only subject mastery but also classroom readiness and pedagogical competence.

Reform AreaGTLE Then (Old)GTLE Now (New)
Time to Write GTLEExam written one year after completion of training – CancelledExam now integrated into final-year examinations of teacher training
Exam Centre SelectionCandidates not permitted to write in their training institutions – CancelledCandidates permitted to write in their colleges or institutions
Practical ComponentNo practical component; Pedagogy scored out of 100% – CancelledTeaching practice now counts for 30% of Pedagogy; theory counts for 70%

It should be noted that final-year students will write the reformed version, while resitters and graduates who are yet to write the 2025 GTLE I written in July will follow the old format.

Registration and Indexing Protocols

The NTC has emphasised that prospective candidates must be indexed by their training institutions before initiating payment or registration.

Key directives include:

  • Candidates can only pay for indexing after their details have been uploaded onto the NTC indexing portal.
  • Payments made by unqualified individuals or those not indexed will not be refunded.
  • Indexing payments cannot be processed at banks or via short codes unless candidate details are present on the portal.

How to Check Your Indexing Status on the NTC Portal

To confirm whether your training institution has uploaded your details for indexing:

  • Click on “Check Confirmation Status” or “Verify Your Indexing Number”
  • Enter your Indexing Number or relevant credentials
  • Click Submit to view your indexing status
  • If your details are valid, the system will confirm your eligibility
  • If not, contact your college authorities to ensure your data has been submitted to NTC

Candidates who paid but didn’t receive their indexing number via SMS can retrieve it using their transaction number from the bank or mobile payment receipt.

Selection of Examination Centres

Candidates will be required to select their preferred examination centres during registration.

However, centre allocation will be subject to availability and logistical considerations.

 Photograph and Data Integrity

The Council has made it clear that no requests for photograph changes will be accepted after the examination.

Candidates are urged to:

  • Print a summary of their registration inputs
  • Read and accept the examination regulations before finalizing registration
  • Secure their PIN and Serial Numbers for future access

Cautions and Advisory

To ensure a smooth registration and examination process, the NTC has issued the following advisories:

  • Do not use one phone number to purchase multiple vouchers; this may cause registration errors
  • Dress code for the examination is strictly formal or professional
  • Babies are not permitted in the examination hall under any circumstances
  • Registration deadline is 28th September 2025, with no extensions beyond this date

Examination Dates

The 2025 GTLE II will be conducted nationwide from 13th to 15th October 2025, with candidates expected to adhere strictly to all guidelines and protocols.

It should be noted that this period will serve as the final phase of the post-graduation licensure model and mark the beginning of the reformed version for final-year students.

Final-year students should be aware that they will be required to pay ( for the indexing & registration) to write the licensure examination, and are therefore encouraged to prepare accordingly.

Coleman Publications will continue to monitor and report on all emerging developments related to the GTLE reforms and broader educational policy updates.
